The YAFFA Dashboard: your daily financial overview

A quick-glance home screen that tells you how you are doing — before you even open a report

Awareness without effort

Good financial habits do not require spending an hour in spreadsheets every day. The YAFFA dashboard is designed around a simpler goal: give you the most important signals about your financial position in a single view, fast enough that checking in becomes part of your routine rather than a chore.

The dashboard is not a replacement for the deeper reports and insights section. It is the starting point — a daily pulse check that shows you whether things need attention and, when they do, points you toward where to look next.

What the dashboard shows you

  1. Your total account value, organized by account group. At a glance, you can see how much you hold in everyday banking, savings, investments, or any other group you have defined. All balances are presented in your base currency for a consistent total, even when individual accounts use different currencies. You can choose to include or hide closed accounts depending on what picture you want to see.

  2. A monthly category impact chart. YAFFA shows which top-level categories had the biggest positive or negative effect during the selected month — presented as a waterfall chart so you can immediately see what drove the result. If a month looks unusual, the chart tells you why without requiring you to dig through individual transactions. You can step backward and forward through months, and filter between all transactions, standard spending only, or investment activity.

  3. A calendar of upcoming scheduled transactions. Your recurring commitments — rent, salary, subscriptions, loan payments — are mapped onto a calendar so you can see what is coming up in the days ahead. Each entry links directly to the entry workflow, making it easy to record a scheduled instance the moment it falls due. No scheduled event should catch you off guard.

  4. A smart category suggestion for a payee. YAFFA watches your transaction history and, when it notices that you consistently categorize a particular payee the same way, it surfaces a suggestion to set that as the default. Accepting it takes one click and improves every future transaction with that payee. You stay in control — you can accept, defer, or dismiss each suggestion.

  5. A first-use setup checklist. When you are just starting with YAFFA, the dashboard guides you through the essential steps — adding a currency, setting a base currency, creating your first account group and account, adding payees and categories, and recording your first transaction. Each step is marked complete as you finish it, so the checklist shrinks and the useful content takes over as you build out your financial structure.

Dashboard vs Reports — knowing which to use

The dashboard answers the question How am I doing right now? It is optimized for speed and everyday awareness. The reports section answers deeper questions: How did last quarter compare with the one before? Am I on track with my grocery budget? What does my investment timeline look like? Use the dashboard for your daily check-in; use reports when you want to interpret, compare, and plan.

A home screen that rewards consistent recording

Every widget on the dashboard draws from the transactions, schedules, and asset data you have recorded. The more consistently you track, the more useful the dashboard becomes. Account totals become trustworthy, the category chart becomes a genuine month-to-month narrative, and the schedule calendar gives you a realistic view of what is coming — because the underlying data reflects your actual financial life rather than guesswork.
